About
History of AUSA Space Coast Chapter
AUSA is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to maintaining a strong national security with special interest in all components of the Army. The basic purpose of establishing AUSA was to provide an organization that could speak with one voice for the entire Army and civilians interested in the Army and national defense.
The Space Coast Chapter was chartered by the AUSA Council of Trustees on July 1, 2006 after being a sub-chapter with the Sunshine Chapter for 2 years. The Charter for the East Central Florida Coast area includes the boundaries of Daytona Beach, Brevard and Indian River Counties.
SGM Vincent “Kip” Mathias, (Ret), is the first President of the Space Coast Chapter after serving over 2 years as the Sunshine Chapter Treasurer. The Chapter started with over 400 members strong and focuses on the four AUSA tenors:
- People Support – for those in the Army
- Industry Liaison – in support of the Army
- Public Education – about the Army
- Professionalism – within the Army
The membership is comprised of Active duty soldiers, Reservists, National Guard, ROTC cadets at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Retirees, Department of the Army civilians, and Industry partners. It is proud to serve the Soldiers and their families.
